I still live. *prostrates self before flist*

Liah, your mail came within hours of me thinking I should mail you o.o

I can't believe it's been nearly a month! A month in Delhi, a month at Uni and a month without regular internet ogod

On the bright side, I think I could get used to a system of learning that does't require one to write exams or actually study unless one feels inclined to, yes I could. We had something of a Freshman welcome party thing where we had to down an entire glass of punch in one go. God bless iron constitutions. It was quite strange being in a class full of Master's students and thinking 'oh they're so young' though.

Oh and this is possibly the greenest campus ever, which shall be proved by the view from my balcony.

The View )

Okay, so I've decided I kinda like Delhi. I do not like how bloody Jawaharlal Nehru University took a bloody WEEK to process my forms for hostel allotment forcing me to stay over at little known places but I do kinda like the place. As such. The city, with all its bigness and its peppered-with-national-monuments-ness.

BUT I WANT MY INTERNET BACK DAMMIT GIVE IT BACK I WANNA BE ABLE TO GO ONLINE WHENEVER I WANT AND NOT GET DISCONNECTED FIVE MINUTES LATER I WANT TO BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD *wails*

And so I find myself in Delhi. *waves to flist*

Little sis and I were feeling far too cracky and high on fandoms when we attempted this particular madlib. Then again, we're nearly always cracky and high on fandoms so... yeah. Been watching Reborn anime at an unhealthily fast pace, too (>.>) which is why there's an inclination towards that area of obsession.

What buchous may come... )

Of course. A girl who's a member of a community that exists to promote Yukimura's death has a problem with Mizuki being called gay. I don't particularly feel inclined towards replying towards trollishness since plenty of people already have, more to avoid redundancy than anything else.
But this... is Tenipuri.
It is a fandom in which this happens (and I choose this picture because duh Golden Pair *_*) :

And I'm sorry, even Konomi-sensei's in on it. A man who attends myus and seiyuu events would kinda catch on after the first few slashtastic moments, wouldn't he? Besides, KonomiShiraishi=OTP

Dear little voices,
I'm sorry for crowding you in with all the muses that have taken up residence with you, but bear with them they don't seem intent on going away anytime soon (and will bring in friends if necessary)
I thank you for all the lovely story and fic ideas you spam my brain cells with every passing moment, I'm honestly touched. Even though 98% of them involve BL themes thereby rendering them unpublishable. Now, I'd appreciate it if you'd also tell me HOW THEY END.
Thank you.
PS- I prefer you turned off the part of my thought processes obsessing over the Kansai region. Yes please.

That Yamamoto thought process that's been nagging at me? I couldn't resist.
Yeah.
Unfinished as of now, but as with all things I write, I had to get it out of my head or I'd never hear the end of it. In my head.

Finally, finally catching up with Reborn... I feel strangely inspired to write an extremely twisted 8059 fic with Gokudera and TYL!Yamamoto... It would be wrong on so many levels...
And there's that Merlin fic I should probably finish too...
There was once a time when I had original characters to think about (-___-)# Thank you, lj, for eating my brain.

I hereby present, the most awesome spectacle nature down here can provide, onset of the Monsoon. And a pseudo-silhouette of a coconut tree. Cuz there isn't an inch of space without one.

I have a world of things to say about this article... and strangely, nothing at all... There's just so many issues all in one go, on gender identity and sexuality and so much in between.
That is one heck of a decision those parents made, that's for sure.

Screw sandstorms, screw recession, screw anything that's happening in the rest of the world, Saudi has always and will always remain the same. It's kinda nice to know, really. Sure there's a few hundred more malls every few metres thanks to the fact that the country is filthy stinkin' rich, but anyway, there's a nice sort of familiarity to it all.

And dressing up in long black robes like a Sith Lord? Totally worth it!

Meanwhile, we're back just in time for the temple festival here, which makes it the first time in years I'll get to go~

There's so much to download, gaaah! I've gotten into Gundam 00 fandom entirely by accident and have chosen to stay because of the extreme prettiness all around, so there's a buncha eps of that to get. And then there's Merlin, which I realised I should download to catch up on the slash episodes I missed. And then... there's Reborn.  Which has about a hundred episodes I need to get.

Life is good.

If only I didn't have to write the most important exam of my life in a week. *dies*

So it's election madness as far as the eye can see, and since I'm not gonna be around to vote, I can just wait and see what comes out of the chaos and hope it's not someone who mucks everything up. I'm getting sick of seeing LK Advani ads on LJ.

Anyway, I recently picked up Freedom at Midnight, by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins, a look on the whole independence process from the pov of two complete outsiders. There's a lot of Mountbatten praise and strangely unrelated information on Gandhi's sex life (or lack thereof) but it's making for interesting reading...

I also found this, that I wrote sometime ago in the middle of an Indian Lit class back when I still had something to attend classes for... The Raj in a very politically incorrect nutshell.

Political Incorrectness, Factual Errors, the works )

I love my country, I really do. Please don't stone me.

Okay maybe not the end of the world, but-!!!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a dust storm moving in on the city of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. It's so massive it's disrupted air traffic there and in the neighbouring cities as well.
Yes, this is an actual picture, from yesterday. Not edited even though it looks like a scene from The Mummy.

I don't know what's scarier- the fact that there's a huge wall of sand slowly engulfing a city or that I used to live in that country and I'm going there friggin next month O_O!

Good grief, and I thought the pub thing was insane!

Imagine this: it's Valentine's Day, you're out with your boyfriend and suddenly this priest and a bunch of other people pop up and right there- on the spot- get the two of you married.

Sound impossible? Hah!

news.outlookindia.com/item.aspx

This is absolutely ridiculous to the point of me having nothing to say about it.
They arrested the guy a coupla hours ago, just to make sure he doesn't go through with it.

Pfft.

in.news.yahoo.com/32/20090126/1053/tnl-hooligans-get-moralistic-target-mang_1.html

I've wanted to rant on this for a really long time only I could never get around to it until the other day my mom brought it up and we had this huge-ass debate about the whole thing.
What happened is this, a group of men acting in the name of a Hindu religious organization called the Ram Sene entered a pub and assaulted the women there physically and verbally. For what? Because they were, according to them, 'violating Indian customs'. Right. And I suppose it's perfectly acceptable in Indian customs to beat up women? And the fact that they're doing it in the name of religion only makes it worse. Note that no one minds that there were men drinking in the pub because apparently religions find it all right for men to drink but not women.
I'm not trying to stand for the rights of would-be alchoholics, of course. But this is not an attack on immorality of any kind, it's an attack of women in general.
Their actions are completely unjustified and plenty of political and social groups have spoken out against it, but what really annoys me about this sort of incident is the way some people react. For instance there were a lot of lay persons on tv going on about how those girls deserved it for going out drinking and wearing 'obscene' clothing. The Ram Sene people were apparently only doing what the parents of those girls should have done.
What century do we live in again? Because I get the feeling we might have taken a time warp some centuries into the past.
Alright so the whole 'pub culture' thing is getting a lot of people riled up. But they also need to see where it's coming from. I've come to see Indian society as one that's been repressed for so long in so many ways, the slightest chance to vent all that frustration ends up becoming something like an obsession. Everyone goes on about how instead of imbibing the best of Western culture, we're picking up the worst. Well maybe that's because it's been a while since Indians have known what real freedom's like.
If attacking patrons of random establishments is the only way people can come up with to make a change in this country, then I guess we really do have a long way to go.
